A Clockwork Orange
1971 • Drama/Crime • Rated R • 2h 16m
Stanley Kubrick's 1971 movie, based on the Anthony Burgess' book of the same title, is set in a dismal future England and chronicles a sadistic delinquent named Alex (Malcolm McDowell) as he leads his gang in "ultra-violence" before they set him up to get arrested. In prison, Alex volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment but the results aren't quite what he expected. Despite the controversy caused by the film's explicit sex and violence, it went on to be nominated for dozens of awards including Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing.
